Kristen Berkey, LPC
Born and raised in the Valley, I have grown up loving the outdoors and the surrounding mountains. You'll often find me on a hike or run near home. I exercise my creative side through gardening, reading, painting, and cooking.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and the owner of Redbud Counseling. I work from a client-centered approach with couples, individuals, and children/teens. I spent much of my early career working with young children in the school setting, who were at risk of removal from the home. I transitioned into private practice setting and have found much meaning in my work with those seeking healing and wellness through Psychotherapy. I am trained in a technique called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and have worked with many who have experienced significant trauma in their lives. I love my work and feel honored that many have allowed me to bear witness to their healing journeys.

I have been very excited to announce the recent expansion of Redbud Counseling and to begin sharing a beautiful space new space with clients and clinicians!

Elizabeth Resto, LPC
Hello! My name is Elizabeth and I am one of the team members at Redbud Counseling. Originally from Broadway, Virginia just north of Harrisonburg, I have called Rockingham County and Harrisonburg City home all my life and treasure this beautiful valley! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and so excited to be a part of this group practice as my first experience in private practice as an LPC. I have a passion for understanding the unique life stories (the personal narratives) each person holds from a person-centered and integrated theoretical approach. Person-centered work, with many other characteristics, prioritizes each person as the expert and author of their story. I strongly value this truth, autonomy and strive to empower those I work with as they explore their individual perspective of the world. Especially during times in life that feel hopeless, overwhelming and confusing. With a collaborative approach, I aspire to walk with each person as they find and develop skills and routines that support their healing and build community around them.

In my spare time, I love to adventure outdoors in almost every way but especially through hiking, kayaking and gardening! I love to challenge myself in a fun workout, cook/bake and eat with friends and read a good book. I'm always eager to find a new hobby or activity!
I would be excited to share more with you about the counseling experience, my specific approach and the ability to grow at Redbud.

Mackenzie Lapp, LPC
Hello, my name is Mackenzie and I am the newest member of the Redbud Counseling team! From Bridgewater, Virginia, I’ve loved being able to call the Shenandoah Valley my home. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have had the privilege of working in a variety of settings over the years. I have had the opportunity to work at a university counseling center, a community health center, as well as elementary, middle, and high schools. My experiences also include working as a Therapeutic Day Treatment counselor in a local school system, providing community-based treatment services, and most recently, working as an outpatient counselor.
Practicing from a client-centered approach, I view each person as their own expert and am passionate about clients finding a voice for their own stories, in addition to their sources of inner strength. I prioritize providing a space for clients to feel seen and heard throughout the therapeutic process. Emphasizing a relational lens, I value the exploration of connections and relational dynamics that we have with ourselves, others, and surrounding communities. Collaborating with you, I will work with you as you move towards personal growth, self-empowerment, and increased awareness of interpersonal processes.
In my free time, my favorite things to do include listening to music, playing the piano, and finding my next favorite book to read. I love the mountain views that are easy to find in the Valley and especially enjoy hiking on the weekends.
